Funky Flash in London . . .

Last year I attended a photography workshop in London which was led by Brett Harkness.  Brett is a genius when it comes to flash and this is a skill I really wanted to learn more about.  His understanding of light and flash is second to none; he can look at a scene and instantly know just what F stop, shutter and ISO he will need to use to attain a particular look or feel within his images.  Similarly, you can look at many images within photography magazines and instantly know if it’s one of Brett’s – his style is so unique and therefore recognisable!

Brett is extremely generous with his knowledge and time; he explained what off camera flash would add to the images, what to look out for in terms of backgrounds and poses, how to achieve a fashion look and which settings would give certain looks.  He really cares that you are bettering yourself as a photographer and makes sure that every person on the course gets the ‘shot’ before moving onto the next shot.

The course was limited to nine photographers meaning that many subject matters could be covered.  We had two lovely professional models who had their hair and make up professionally done by the lovely Zan Atkinson of zanmakep.com, who did an absolutely amazing job.  The course was held in London in the place that they film Dragon’s Den and I was totally blown away by the day and also extremely inspired.  Many thanks to Kristie and Brett Harkness, and the two lovely models Margit and Natasha.
